Teaching & Learning

Harris Primary Academy Benson offers an exciting, personalised learning curriculum that both supports and challenges all our students. This approach is central to our teaching and learning philosophy. We ensure that all teaching and support staff have access to the highest-quality training programmes, providing innovative and cutting-edge learning opportunities for every student.

The Academy aims to:

  • Meet the needs and aspirations of all students.
  • Ensure all students can successfully access the curriculum, making any reasonable adjustments required where particular needs are identified.
  • Recognise high-achieving students and ensure they are given opportunities to stretch and challenge their learning.
  • Plan opportunities for students to develop their personal potential.
  • Establish a range of agreed policies and practices to guarantee a consistent approach to teaching and learning in every classroom.
  • Involve all staff in developing and improving the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Provide all staff with developmental opportunities to extend and enhance their range of teaching strategies and repertoires.
  • Develop staff to deliver skills beyond their subject specialism and incorporate cross-curricular initiatives, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
  • Identify students’ achievements and areas for improvement through rigorous progress monitoring, and plan appropriate interventions to enhance learning.

The suite of policies attached provides further details on how the academy supports and progresses the aims outlined above.

At Harris Primary Academy Benson, we use the Read Write Inc. (RWI) programme to give children a strong start in literacy. RWI is a method of learning centred around letter sounds and phonics, which we use to help children develop their reading and writing skills.
